As you start to use Consistency seriously, you naturally add more and more tasks. At some point it makes sense to separate these tasks into different contexts, so that you're not bombarded with more information than you need at any one time.

There doesn't seem to be a way at the moment to move a task into another context. Of course you could delete and recreate the task, but that loses all of the associated information about how often you've performed it in the past.

A potential iPhone implementation: When you edit a task you should be able to see the 'parent' context, and change this to any of the existing contexts, using a selection wheel, or 'move to new context'.

Potential Mac implementation: Drag a task from one context window to another.

Consistency is great - one of those products that as soon as you try it, you realise you've needed it all your life  cheesy

I have both the Mac and the iPhone version, and wish that they could sync with each other. I know that you can copy data from one to the other using the WiFi web interface, but that is not the same as sync, nor is it automatic.

Here's a brief description of how I would ideally like it to work. I'm taking Things as my model, because I think it gets sync mostly right.

Whenever you open the Consistency app on the iPhone and you are on WiFi, and the desktop app is open on your Mac, it automatically syncs any changes between the two in the background, so that it does not interfere with whatever you opened Consistency to do. (Things gets this wrong as the sync window interrupts what you're doing and stops you from doing anything until it's completed.)

If you need to sync straight away, you should be able to tap a 'Sync Now' button, rather than having to close and reopen the app.

Another good model is Calengoo (Google Calendar iPhone client). Although the sync is automatic on startup, you can disable this and just hit the sync button whenever you need to sync. This would be a nice but not essential enhancement.

To my mind, the absolutely perfect model of sync is that between Simplenote and Notational Velocity (or any other Simplenote API client). Because it syncs via a web service, it works over the air (3G or WiFi), in the background, and with complete transparency. Once you've entered your Simplenote account details at both ends, you never have to think about or notice a syncing process ever again. This has the effect that whenever you go to your notes, they are always automagically up to date with whatever changes you made on the iPhone, the desktop, the web interface, or any other client.

I appreciate that multiple documents and contexts in Consistency make it not quite straightforward to determine what should be synced. I would suggest modifying the existing 'sync' screen on the iPhone so that you can manually upload or download a given context, and also check a box to 'automatically sync this context every time'. This screen would also show available contexts in the desktop version and make it possible to download these to the iPhone. The default should be to sync everything.

We're sorry Consistency didn't meet your needs. We opted to create an unlimited-time trial rather than an unlimited-task trial because we believe that thoroughly testing Consistency can take weeks or even months, and we didn't want to arbitrarily limit time.  Even though the unregistered version if Consistency can only have documents that are limited to 5 tasks, you can have two of those documents open at a time for a total of 10, and you can have as many documents as you want on disk and ready to open... So you can really have as many tasks as you want without registering, subject to the annoyance of only seeing 10 tasks in two documents at a time.

Hi,

I currently use a home-made calendar to keep track of recurring todos, and I thought I could benefit from using something like Consistency instead. So I downloaded the trial version, and found out that I can't add more than 5 items, unless I pay 25$ for the full version.

Without being able to enter all my todos, there's no way I can test Consistency to see if it fits my needs.
And there's no way I'm buying the full version without testing that.

To me, a time-limited trial, where I could use all the features of the full version, would be a much better trial than what you currently offer.
I see why you offer a non-time-limited version, but honestly, who needs such a tool with 5 or less tasks? I doubt the current trial you offer is more attractive than a time-limited trial, specially to users willing to buy your software if it fits their needs.

I'll continue my search for similar tools.

Good day,

- Guillaume Boudreau

I bought the mobile version, but never use it. Without sync there is really no point for me to have Sciral Consistency on my iPhone.

What are the chance of a sync capability?  I am a longtime desktop user and I am currently slogging through the workaround of using VNC as my method to "access it" on the go from my iPhone and iPad.  I VNC into my Mac, and then find my way to that window, then check off the item.  Not ideal but (barely) workable.  True sync would make it worthwhile for me to buy the mobile version but otherwise it seems more effort than it saves.

I second this feature.  I'd like to be able to:

-hide all tasks not yet due
-show ONLY tasks that are due (green zone)
-show ONLY tasks that are soon to be overdue (yellow zone)

This can be done.

Start Consistency. Tap the Info icon on the taskbar (at the bottom) to view the About Consistency page. Tap on the entry "Multiple Target Ranges On A Single Task" and then follow the instructions "To start a new target range on a given day."

I would like to be able to change the minimum and maximum days between completions of a task on the iPhone. Sometimes when I create a task, my guess at the proper schedule is a rough guess (how often can I comfortably work out?), and is often wrong. It seems the only way to correct this is to recreate the task.

Thanks Joe - I hope that's the beginning of next year rather than the end  smiley
